Our Mission:

We are a volunteer service organization of concerned, committed and talented women who in friendship enhance the quality of life in the larger community.  The organization is primarily concerned with enriching, sustaining and ensuring the identities, culture and economic survival of African-Americans and persons of African-American descent.  To contribute in the formulation of a positive, productive and culturally diverse society, our group also focuses on education, cultural enrichment, health and wellness and civic involvement.  This focus is implemented through strategies such as in public information, education, economic development and public policy.

 

The goals of this Program Emphasis are:

 

  1. To empower young women in self-governance, sustaining relationships, financial literacy and leadership skills;
  2. To broaden the life experiences of young women;
  3. To serve as role models;
  4. To help clarify career goals and help develop a plan to reach these goals;
  5. To help identify personal and educational goals and values;
  6. To improve the self-esteem and confidence of young women;
  7. To successfully be an influence in the lives of young women;
  8. To have a positive and lasting impact on young women

 

Suggested strategies and/or activities for completing this Program Emphasis:

 

  1. Young women will be recommended for this Mentoring Program by parents, church youth groups, schools or community organizations.
  2. Limit the selection to 10 – 12 young women, preferably middle and high school.
  3. Kick-off activity will be GWWA monthly breakfast which will focus on introductions, schedule of planned activities, etc.
  4. Host quarterly book reading assignments.  Books identified could be related to school assignments. 
  5. Young ladies to participate in Volunteer activities of GWWA.
  6. Host quarterly movies with follow-up discussions.
  7. Activities will culminate in a Retreat/Mini-Conference(see suggested agenda)
  8. All activities will focus on leadership development, employment skills, character development, healthy living and personal development.
